Espresso Makers - Save Money by Drinking Coffee at Home

!: Espresso Makers - Save Money by Drinking Coffee at Home

Espresso makers have taken on a life of their own. These once novel contraptions were rare in America homes, but today's coffee connoisseurs require that they own one.

What is Espresso?

Espresso makers are used to make the widely popular Italian type of coffee. Espresso was historically served in Italian homes as an after dinner beverage, it is served in a shot size coffee cup. Traditionally as an after beverage it would be served with a shot of liquor, usually Anisette or Zambian. There is also lemon rind that was either shaved into it or served as a garnish on the side. The result is a very strong robust coffee with a hint of licorice flavor from the Anisette and the lemon rind to reduce any bitterness.

Today Espresso is well loved by millions of Americans not so much as the traditional after dinner beverage but more for the other types of drinks it produces when mixed with other ingredients.

How It Works?

The coffee is finely ground and packed into a small metal filter that usually has a handle. The small metal filter is than attached by slipping it into a grooved slot and clicking it into place a vacuum seal occurs when the filter is snapped into place. The water that was filled into the reservoir is heated up and then forced through the filter holding the coffee - the finely brewed coffee that has packed tightly into the reservoir than drips very slowly through the coffee filter. These systems brew one cup at a time.

Costs

The cost will vary for Espresso makers the price will range from around for low end models to literally thousands for high end ornate elaborate models. A good quality machine can be found for around 0 or so. Many of the machines are equipped with steam arms so that frothy coffee drinks can be made like Latte's and Cappuccino. These models will be more expensive than simple models that make only the espresso.

Where to Purchase

Due to their growth in popularity, these machines can be found at any home goods store. They are widely available and are usually sold wherever small kitchen appliances are sold. A good source for price comparison and to read consumer reviews is the internet. All Espresso makers are not created equally, so reading consumer reviews can be very helpful in determining which one will work the best.

Antique Wood Cook Stove - Why Still Popular and Useful?

!: Antique Wood Cook Stove - Why Still Popular and Useful?

Have you ever wondered why antique wood cook stoves remain very popular? They continue to be found in most specialty stove refurbishment stores both online and offline. It is amazing how some stoves created in the 1800s or early 1900s are still being used today.

Some folks keep wondering why old-fashioned stoves continue to be sought-after amidst the more modern brands available today. Perhaps we should reveal the essence of using a wood burning cook stove these modern times. It would be comforting to know antique wood cook stove still have many good reasons far more convenient than modern stove and cooking systems.

A wood burning cook stove is a typical cooking appliance that is powered by wood instead of fuel. Cooking with the use of wood requires skill, one must know when to add wood and when to stoke the fire. In any case, most stoves come with one oven, but many models have already come with two ovens, one larger for Dutch ovens, roasters or casseroles, and smaller ones for bread or cake pans.

Some people still use wood burning stoves for old times sake. They claim it makes them think how their grandparents, great-grandparents, or great-great-grandparents prepare their meals. They believe a wood cook stove brings back yesterday not just a bit of history, but a memorable charm to their homes.

Many antique stoves are bought by working farms. Some country and historic houses get the stoves simply to carry out a period home, or kitchen. Many times, these very old wood stoves are employed as a design that goes with the period where the home or kitchen was first constructed. Museums procure them for business and display purposes, while some individuals choose to use them for a simpler form of life.

Normally, implementing a wood burning cook stove today may be logical for some reasons. Wood burning stoves are ideal for distant locations without electricity, but a great quantity of natural resources to use as fuel. In this case, some may wish to have a more modern stove, but many who choose to live in such locations have no other choice but to cook on the type of stove they have used in their lives. One best thing about old-fashioned cooking is a distinct taste to food cooked using a wood stove, which is a challenge to the modern day methods.

Regardless of what reason you have for buying an antique wood cook stove, make sure you buy the items from a reputable antique cook stove stores . No matter how old the wood stoves are, they have to comply with the basic rules and safety ordinance in setting up home appliances, except if you buy it purely for display purposes.

Where to Find Obsolete Appliance Parts

!: Where to Find Obsolete Appliance Parts

As the economic recession deepens, more and more people are becoming reluctant to buy new appliances. They would rather have their old ones repaired and re-done than by replacing them with new and more expensive units. During this trying time, any suggestion to save money will be most welcome. For broken home appliances, submitting it to necessary repairs will come to mind. However, the option to repair broken home appliances poses some problems. Of course, having sufficient skills in doing repair is an advantage; it certainly yields huge savings by becoming free from repair costs and for being able to paid repair services for other people. But sometimes, broken appliances would need its worn, blown and damaged parts replaced. This is actually not a problem for more recent appliance models. However, whatever happens if the replacement parts needed are already obsolete?

In many cases, broken down appliances are caused by a single blown or damaged part. Naturally, that part will be discovered as the repairman thoroughly examine how far the damage has got into the appliance. Although he is skilled enough to salvage that appliance, he will need to have the damaged part replaced to fully restore its mechanisms. Without a replacement part, any repair attempt will be like a 'house of cards going down'. Unless that part is supplied, the appliance will be rendered beyond salvage. And the problem triples if that single part is found to be obsolete.

So what exactly is an obsolete part? What makes a part obsolete?

For a specific model of a home appliance, such as refrigerators, televisions and washing machines, is usually assembled from a unique set of parts and system of mechanisms. These components are the secret to its powerful cooling, cleaning and other functional mechanisms; claiming advantage over its competition. Appliance manufacturers normally put their appliances under a series of performance tests, which help determine or estimate service life of their appliances. That span of time also allows them to determine for how long they will need to manufacture spare parts for those appliance models. Once the manufacturers stop producing spare parts for a particular model of appliance, its parts will be rendered as obsolete.

In some cases, a well maintained appliance outlives its estimated service life. With that, certain problems will be faces once they start stalling. Very old appliances usually have obsolete parts. This makes it harder for a handy man or repair man to locate an exact part replacement for the damaged parts. Unless an exact part replacement is found, the repairs needed by a broken appliance will never be completed.

Where to shop

For years now, the internet has become extremely helpful in locating hard-to-find trinkets. With that, it has extended help in locating obsolete parts. There are a number of websites that feature stocks and listings of obsolete appliance parts. Collectively, these websites have created a helpful inventory on the surplus parts of very old appliance models. All you need to do is determine the part number of the replacement part that you needed to make the search easier. Antique parts are no exception. For very very old part models, replacements can be found on specialty online shopping stores or even in auction sites. Now, finding those obsolete switches, light bulbs, gears, and other machine pieces is made easier. You are only but a few mouse clicks away to finding the obsolete parts that you are looking for. All you need to do is mark your purchase's shipment date and wait for the package to be delivered right at your doorstep.

Choosing a Bosch Dishwasher

!: Choosing a Bosch Dishwasher

For most families life is a fast-paced race through each and every day. There are tasks that must get done in the few short hours of "free time" throughout any given week day. Household tasks such as cooking and cleaning can take up a great deal of that free time - in fact statistics indicate that an "average" household sees from one to two hours each day dedicated just to washing up after meals.

This is one of the main reasons that dishwashers are so universally popular, especially in family homes where there are larger meals and more dishes. A dishwasher takes a member of the family only a few moments to load, and saves a tremendous amount of water, and water heating resources. Most modern dishwashers will clean dishes much better than simple hand washing, and they will save a lot of time doing the work.

How does a family determine the best dishwasher for their needs? The best way to begin is by assessing exactly what the family will need. For example, is the sink frequently piled high after a meal? Or are there only a small number of plates and cups that require washing during the day? Will there be a need for a sanitizing rinse? Does the family want to wash pots and pans and yet save water? Choosing a dishwasher with a variety of washing options is the best way to meet the demands of for a household of any size, but where does a search for such a machine begin? The Bosch dishwasher line makes a huge range of options and pricing available for those looking for a reliable machine.

Most feature a "Quick Wash" feature for completely cleaned crockery in under a half hour, there are adjustable load sizes to save water on smaller numbers of dishes, most are programmable to allow tasks to get done while the family is at work or school, and most come with flexible baskets configurations to allow a machine to be fully loaded before starting. The Bosch dishwasher line currently includes the Slimline dishwashers - designed to give maximum freedom and performance, and the traditional line of dishwashers. All are available as freestanding or built in models, and some have the "ActiveWater" technology which delivers a significantly lower water and energy usage while delivering superior cleaning performance.

Each range of the Bosch dishwasher line has models available in three distinct formats - the Logixx, Exxcel and Classixx. While each of the machines in the various ranges offer a wide variety of options, even the simplest and least complex, the Classixx, are outfitted with flexible options and settings. Standard settings include programmable washing cycles, residual drying, and anti-flood devices, easy to read LED indicators, time delay and quiet operation. When looking for a dishwasher to meet a busy family's needs it is best to begin with a review of the many options and variety available from a Bosch dishwasher. The manufacturer continually looks to improve efficiency and results and the Bosch dishwasher line consistently receives Energy Savings Trust recommendations, as well as consumer raves.

Benefits of a Kitchen Exhaust Fan

!: Benefits of a Kitchen Exhaust Fan

The kitchen is one of the most common places of get together in many homes. It is a place to loosen up and bond with family and friends. Therefore, the kitchen should be cozy and convenient. But from all the warm images that the kitchen may present, there is something hidden that lingers, its pollution!

Kitchen can be the main source of pollutants in a home. Think all the grease, smoke, unwanted odors and moisture produced during cooking. Pollutants that stick to the walls, ceilings, carpets, furniture, and upholstery may require frequent cleaning and all the effort and expense it entails. But having an exhaust fan system will get rid all of these problems.

A good, reliable kitchen exhaust fan system is what you need especially if you are fond of cooking frying and broiling foods. Cooking methods often produce evident particles as well as an unseen mist of greases that can cover the surfaces of your kitchen if they are not vacuumed and exhausted to the exterior of your home. And, without an effective kitchen exhaust fan, air inside will be packed with dangerous contaminants and disease-causing agents released into indoor air.

Cooking releases excess moisture in the air and make indoor air very humid. If not ventilated properly and adequately, it can decrease the quality of indoor air and may lead to a number of problems like asthma, allergies, skin rashes, headaches and nausea and other breathing disorders.

It can possibly cause formation of fungus, mold spores, and mildew that may cause severe health problems. Home furniture may be warped due to excess humidity. Wall paints may crack and peel.

There are wide selections of products in the market that will keep your kitchen well ventilated. It may cover a choice of kitchen range hoods, kitchen exhausters and kitchen fans. All these products are well designed to keep the air inside your home fresh and the atmosphere comfortable.

Kitchen range hoods can furnish an attractive look and be functional additions in your kitchen. It can drive out heat, smoke, moisture and odors fast and directly. These kitchen range hoods are available in different designs and colors. This type can also provide cook top lighting and some models even offer a selection of light levels like a subtle nightlight.

Kitchen range hood are installed directly over the range to trap the heated air, smoke, moisture and gas fumes while a fan exhaust it through duct work to the exterior of the house. It has a filter that traps grease that can be easily removed and cleaned. This type of kitchen ventilator must be with the same width as the cooking surface. It serves and sets up directly over it at a height of at least 18 to 30 inches from your burners.

You can have it installed. Most of it comes with free service installation when bought. Otherwise, you can do it yourself by following the instructions in the manual.

Whatever type of exhaust fan you decide to install in your kitchen, it will definitely improve the air inside, as well as the overall environment inside your house.

How to Choose the Right Kitchen Range

!: Nice How to Choose the Right Kitchen Range

So, you're looking for an electric kitchen range? There are a lot of choices to be made, and they can be dizzying. Let's deal with the cook-top first.... There are a few different types of burners, but, at the end of the day, it all comes down to one basic issue.... Electric is slow to respond to temperature changes. This is why most professional kitchens use gas. When you turn a gas stove-top off, it's completely off. When you turn the dial to off on an electric range, you have to wait for the burner element to cool down. All the while, it is still transmitting energy, in the form of heat, to the food which you are cooking.

Conversely, when you want to heat it up, you have to wait for the element to heat, whereas with gas, you can go from zero to eleven (for you Spinal Tap fans) as fast as you can turn the knob. Most home cooks do not need this type of fine and responsive temperature control, and appreciate the safety advantages of an electric kitchen range, so this is not an issue. If you do need this control, there's an important word to remember: induction. Induction burners have been popular in Europe for years and are now coming over to the US. Instead of having an element that heats up, they create a magnetic force which causes friction in the pot and heats it up.

Here's the cool thing... They operate on the same principle as gas - when they're on, they're on, when they're off, they're off. Also, because the element doesn't actually get hot, it's safer than the old Ceran stoves which are really just covered electric burners. The only drawback to an induction burner is that you need to have steel or metal pots - aluminum won't work on it (the test is too see if a refrigerator magnet sticks to your pot - if it does, it's induction friendly).

Either way, when choosing an electric range, remember to have appropriately sized burners. If you have a 14" saute pan, you're not going to get very good results on a small burner.... Down on the oven side, the good news is that electric ovens have significant advantages over gas. With an electric stove, you can get very fine temperature control and stability. This makes an electric range perfect for frequent bakers. Electric stoves can be purchased with a number of enhancements, such as convection (which combines the heating element with a fan to move the heat around and speed cooking times).

Kitchen Plumbing

!: Nice Kitchen Plumbing

Kitchen plumbing forms an integral part of kitchen design. The majority of kitchens possess a straightforward plumbing setup which is inclusive of cold- and hot-water supply lines, waste line to connect to the sink, and a pipe of gas supply for kitchens having gas range. Some kitchens contain hookups for disposer, water-treatment system, icemaker, dishwasher, and immediate hot water. These are normally associated with the plumbing of the sink.

The part of sink's plumbing that is visible is always located inside its base cabinet, exactly down the sink. The gas range gets served by the gas connector, which has a flexible nature. Its control takes place through the gas valve, which is positioned at the floor underneath the cocktop.

Underneath the sink, two tiny valves can be seen. They are used for hot and cold water supply respectively. The clockwise turning of these valves stops the water flow. This happens due to its routing to faucet through supply tubes having a flexible nature. On the side of faucet of cold-water shut off valve, there might exist other connections (relating to water) too. They might be through saddle valve. This is usually the Case if flexible plastic or copper tubing is used to make connections. Due to this, icemaker, water-treatment device, and immediate-hot water dispenser get a proper service.

Shut off valves perform the task of supplying cold and hot water to faucet. Many older houses do not have these. Supply tubes (flexible) facilitate connection between the valves and threaded tailpieces of faucet. Faucets possessing an integral sprayer also have sprayer hose. That helps in connecting to another tailpiece. This connection takes place at faucet's centre.

Gas Hookup

The supply of gas to the gas range generally gets controlled through a shut off valve underneath the range. A flexible, small supply line causes the gas to get delivered to appliance.

Dishwasher Installation

Dishwasher installation involves using of 20-ampere electrical receptacle, drainage, and a water supply (cold or hot). To serve the purpose of drainage, it is advisable to get the dishwasher installed at a place near the kitchen sink. An improper installation of dishwasher can lead to a disaster.

DIY Kitchen Plumbing

DIY kitchen plumbing should be gone for only if one has burning desire of learning plumbing and does not need the kitchen for at least three months. However, while doing so, one must not forget to acquire permit.

Bosch Hobs

!±8± Bosch Hobs

Bosch hobs are available in five types: gas, induction, ceramic, domino and sealed plate. Gas is still a very popular option for many people because of its controllability and familiarity, but more and more people these days are opting for an electric hob because of the sleeker design.

The gas range of Bosch models is available with either four or five burners. The burners are a wok- type style and the hobs have features such as electronic ignition and flame failure devices for safety and convenience. Some of the higher specifications available from Bosch are also available with tempered hard glass bases. There are six models available in gas and they come in sizes 60cm and 70cm. They are all flush fitting gas hobs, have a brushed steel front trim and a tempered black hard glass base.

The ceramic hobs that are currently available from Bosch are more and more popular recently and one of the reasons for this is that they are so easy to clean. Bosch's ceramic hobs have a wipe- once maintenance and also have flexible cooking zones so they can easily be used with very small and very large pans, including everything in between. There are six models available in the ceramic Bosch hob range and are mainly available in 60cm, however one model is available as an 80cm hob and one comes as a 77cm one, so there should be a size to fit whatever space it is that you have available. The ceramic hobs are available with a frameless black ceramic glass, and with a black frame or stainless steel co-ordinated trim.

The induction range of hobs are some of the quickest, safest and most efficient hobs currently available from Bosch. They work by a powerful electromagnetic field inducing a current, which generates heat inside the pan. These hobs can only be used with ferrous metal pans so you may need to invest in some new ones if you do not already have them.

The 30cm Domino hobs from Bosch have a general mix and match idea to them. This way a gas and a ceramic hob can be combined however you please and allows the hob area of your kitchen to be truly customised to meet individual requirements. There are four types of hob available to mix and match in the domino hob range. The Domino gas hob is a two burner hob and is available in a brushed steel finish. This can be combined with any of the other domino hobs to create a customised hob area. The wok style domino hob is also gas fuelled and has a brushed steel finish whereas the ceramic Domino hobs are available with two zones or one and like the other two options are also available with a brushed steel finish.

Bosch's sealed plate hobs are designed for even cooking and an element within the plate allows the heat to be distributed evenly and effectively across the whole zone. The sealed plate models are available in size 60cm and there are three colours to choose from: stainless steel, black and white. All three models are flush fitting and have four cooking plates.
